WORLD NO TOBACCO DAY 2024

WORLD NO TOBACCO DAY 2024

The WORLD NO TOBACCO DAY was successfully held in collaboration with the City of Bacolod, No Smoking Task Force of the City, Local Medical Societies and Senior High School students all over Negros Occidental last May 31, 2024. The event was started with a city wide motorcade activity and followed by a festive Zumba opening. Messages and testimonies from different sectors were heard including the voices of our dear students. The program also included the MOA signing of the City Health Office of Bacolod, Philippine Pedatric Society-Negros Chapter and Philippine College of Chest Physicians-Negros Chapter. The MOA contains the official collaboration of these organizations in educating the youth about the dangers of Smoking and Vaping through various activites and sustainable programs. To cap the event, we joined the simultaneous hand print activity nationwide as a sign of our commitment in this advocacy.

PCCP NEGROS AND 10,000 TREES

PCCP NEGROS AND 10,000 TREES

The Philippine College of Chest Physicians Negros Chapter continues to amplity the PCCP advocacies especially its TREE PLANTING ACTIVITY with the goal of planting 10,000 TREES TO HELP EVERY FILIPINO BREATHE BETTER.

Last August 11, 2024, PCCP Negros in collaboration with other local medical societies went to Brgy. Bocana, Municipality of llog in the of Negros Occidental for a Mangrove Planting, Coastal Clean Up and a talk on Climate Change and Diseases and Vertical Farming/Slow Food Workshop. This year's advocacy activity also revived our local advocacy group TUG-AN: A Promise of Less Plastic Waste where Dr. Ronel Sario, President of PCCP Negros Chapter, is a Co-founder.

To make this tree planting activity more sustainable and long term we collaborated with 1 MILLION TREES PROJECT of NEGROS WOMEN FOR TOMORROW FOUNDATION INC. The 5,000 mangroves that were planted will be taken cared of by the women of Brgy. Bocana and their families. Solar lamps and vertical farm platforms were also donated to the community. Mangroves does not only provide greenery to the ecosystem but also protection from erosion of the nearby communities. They also minimize the impact of storm surges during extreme weather conditions.

The TREE PLANTING was then followed by a COASTAL CLEAN UP and a WORKSHOP on CLIMATE CHANGE AND DISEASES, SLOW FOOD AND VERTICAL FARMING.

Literally it takes a village to fulfill this vision but once people from different sectors work together this simple dream will surely become the future generation's most valuable inheritance from our generation.

A surprise TRIBUTE:

A surprise TRIBUTE: A Night of Gratitude

A surprise TRIBUTE: A Night of Gratitude was held to honor our Senior Pulmonologists who started the practice of Pulmonary Medicine in Bacolod City. The event was held in an old mansion in the city where previous gatherings of aristocrats were held pre Japanese and American colonization just fitting for our well loved mentors/par-ents in the field of lung health.
